When it comes to roofing, warranties are often thrown around as selling points. You’ll hear 20 years here, 50 years there. But what do they really mean? And more importantly, how do you know if they’re actually worth anything?

At Guardian Steel, we believe in transparency. We don’t just talk warranties, we back them with quality materials, honest guidance, and real-world performance.

Here’s what you need to know when comparing roofing steel warranties, and why ours are built to hold up.

Not All Warranties Are Created Equal

Plenty of imported steel comes with vague warranties or exaggerated claims. Some only cover the paint finish, others only cover perforation. Some are voided if you’re within a certain distance of the coast. Others require maintenance that no one tells you about.

The fine print matters. So does the company behind it.

That’s why we clearly outline both perforation and paint warranties, based on the marine exposure zone your site falls into.

For example:

  • Mild conditions (C1 to C2): up to 50 years perforation, 18 years paint

  • Moderate (C3): up to 40 years perforation, 18 years paint

  • Severe (C4): up to 30 years perforation, 15 years paint

  • Very Severe (C5): up to 20 years perforation, 15 years paint

These zones are determined by your distance to the coast and local environmental factors. We help you identify the right one before you even place an order.

A Warranty is Only as Good as the Steel Behind It

Maintenance Matters

Like any building product, steel roofing still needs basic care. Most warranties include a maintenance clause, typically regular rainfall or manual washing at least every six months in sheltered areas.

Skip that and any warranty could be void, no matter who you buy from. We make those requirements clear, up front.

Local Support, Real Guarantees

Guardian Steel is NZ owned and operated. Our manufacturing is based in Auckland, and our support is local. That means if anything ever goes wrong, you’re not chasing a supplier on the other side of the world.

We also spec jobs accurately. If your project needs a coating or profile designed for high-exposure zones, we’ll tell you, not upsell you.

Know What You’re Getting

If you’re comparing steel roofing options and the warranty feels too good to be true, read it carefully. Check the fine print, the zone exclusions, and the maintenance requirements.

Or just talk to us. We’ll give you straight answers, honest specs, and warranties you can actually rely on.
